When the Grass Isn’t Greener: X’s Frustrating Landscaping Fines

X moved into what was advertised as a “worry-free community” — lawn care, they were told, was fully covered by the HOA. For the first year, everything looked great. But after a management change, the landscaping crew stopped showing up regularly.
Without warning, X began receiving violation notices for “overgrown” grass and “unkempt hedges.” Confused, X asked the board for proof that these fines were valid, along with a copy of the maintenance contract. The board simply replied that homeowners were responsible for making sure the landscapers did their job.
The notices kept coming — with added late fees for every week the “violation” continued. X’s frustration grew, and so did the bills. Neighbors whispered about the same problem but were afraid to push back.
Stories like X’s are a quiet reminder: in some communities, you can pay dues for services that never appear — and still get fined for it.
